IG Parser: A Software Package for the Encoding of Institutional Statements using the Institutional Grammar

This article provides an overview of IG Parser, a software that facilitates qualitative content analysis of formal (e.g., legal) rules or informal (e.g., social) norms, and strategies (such as conventions) -- referred to as institutions -- that govern social systems and operate configurally to describe institutional systems. To this end, the IG Parser employs a distinctive syntax that ensures rigorous encoding of natural language, while automating the transformation into various formats that support the downstream analysis using diverse analytical techniques. The conceptual core of the IG Parser is an associated syntax, IG Script, that operationalizes the conceptual foundations of the Institutional Grammar, and more specifically the Institutional Grammar 2.0, an analytical paradigm for institutional analysis. This article presents the IG Parser, including its conceptual foundations, the syntax specification of IG Script, and its architectural principles. This overview is augmented with selective illustrative examples that highlight its use and the associated benefits.


Causal AI-based Root Cause Identification: Research to Practice at Scale

Modern applications are increasingly built as vast, intricate, distributed systems. These systems comprise various software modules, often developed by different teams using different programming languages and deployed across hundreds to thousands of machines, sometimes spanning multiple data centers. Given the ir scale and complexity, these applications are often designed to tolerate failures and performance issues through inbuilt failure recovery techniques (e.g., hardware or software redundancy) or extern al methods (e.g., health check - based restarts). Computer systems experience frequent failures despite every effort: performance degradations and violations of reliability and K ey Performance Indicators (K PI s) are inevitable. These failures, depending on their nature, can lead to catastrophic incidents impacting critical systems and customers. Swift and accurate root cause identification is thus essential to avert significant incidents impacting both service quality and end users. In this complex landscape, observability platforms that provide deep insights into system behavior and help identify performance bottlenecks are not just helpful -- they are essential for maintaining reliability, ensuring optimal performance, and quickly resolving issues in production. The ability to reason a bout these systems in real - time is critical to ensuring the scalability and stability of modern services. To aid in these investigations, observability platforms that collect various telemetry data t o inform about application behavior and its underlying infrastructure are getting popular .


Human Gait State Prediction Using Cellular Automata and Classification Using ELM

In this research article, we have reported periodic cellular automata rules for different gait state prediction and classification of the gait data using extreme machine Leaning (ELM). This research is the first attempt to use cellular automaton to understand the complexity of bipedal walk. Due to nonlinearity, varying configurations throughout the gait cycle and the passive joint located at the unilateral foot-ground contact in bipedal walk resulting variation of dynamic descriptions and control laws from phase to phase for human gait is making difficult to predict the bipedal walk states. We have designed the cellular automata rules which will predict the next gait state of bipedal steps based on the previous two neighbour states. We have designed cellular automata rules for normal walk. The state prediction will help to correctly design the bipedal walk. The normal walk depends on next two states and has total 8 states. We have considered the current and previous states to predict next state. So we have formulated 16 rules using cellular automata, 8 rules for each leg. The priority order maintained using the fact that if right leg in swing phase then left leg will be in stance phase. To validate the model we have classified the gait Data using ELM [1] and achieved accuracy 60%. We have explored the trajectories and compares with another gait trajectories. Finally we have presented the error analysis for different joints.


Handling Complex Commands as Service Robot Task Requests

We contribute a novel approach to understand, dialogue, plan, and execute complex sentences to command a mobile service robot. We define a complex command as a natural language sentence consisting of sensing-based conditionals, conjunctions, and disjunctions. We introduce a flexible template-based algorithm to extract such structure from the parse tree of the sentence. As the complexity of the command increases, extracting the right structure using the template-based algorithm decreases becomes more problematic. We introduce two different dialogue approaches that enable the user to confirm or correct the extracted command structure. We present how the structure used to represent complex commands can be directly used for planning and execution by the service robot. We show results on a corpus of 100 complex commands
